Scholarships for home students

If you are starting your course in 2025, we have a set of scholarships to support you in your studies.

York St John Scholars Scholarships

The York St John University Scholars set of scholarships is open to four groups of students:

  • Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Scholarship

  • Estranged Student Scholarship

  • Care Leaver's Scholarship

  • Offer Scheme Scholarship

 

Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Scholarship

This scholarship is £800 for each year of study. It is awarded after you have fully registered as a York St John University student.

 

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must identify as being in the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic population at registration. You must also show a residual family income of less than £42,000. This means your household income before tax and after any pension contributions or allowances for dependent children.

 

This assessment will be made as part of your student funding application. You will not need to provide any further information to us.

 

Estranged Student Scholarship

This scholarship is £800 for each year of study that you are eligible. It is awarded after you have fully registered as a York St John University student.

 

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must be under the age of 25. You must have been assessed as independent and recognised as estranged by Student Finance England or an equivalent organisation.

 

This assessment will be made as part of your student funding application. You will not need to provide any further information to us.

 

If you are in receipt of this scholarship, then you will also be eligible for the Find Your Future bursary.

 

Care Leaver's Scholarship

This scholarship is £800 for each year of study. It is awarded after you have fully registered as a York St John University student.

 

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must be under the age of 25. You must have been assessed as independent and recognised as a care leaver by Student Finance England or an equivalent organisation.


This assessment will be made as part of your student funding application. You will not need to provide any further information to us.

 

As a care leaver, you may also be entitled to support from your local authority. To find out more, contact our Specialist Support team by submitting a case through the Student Hub online portal

 

If you are in receipt of this scholarship, then you will also be eligible for the Find Your Future bursary.

 

Offer Scheme Scholarship

This scholarship is £800 for each year of study. It is awarded after you have fully registered as a York St John University student.

 

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must have an offer with four points or more in our Contextual Offer Scheme. If you are in this category, you will be contacted directly by our Admissions team. They will get in touch after you have received your offer to let you know that you are eligible for the scholarship.

Further information on York St John Scholars Scholarships

Students cannot receive more than one of our York St John Scholars Scholarships. If you are eligible for more than one, you will receive the award that is of the higher value or the most benefit to you in terms of support or accessing further funding.

 

All scholarships will be awarded after you register as a York St John University student. For most scholarships, we will let you know you are eligible after your registration. For the Contextual Offer Scheme Scholarship, we will let you know during the application cycle.

When will I receive my scholarship payment

All Scholarships will be awarded after you register as a York St John University student. For most scholarships, we will let you know you are eligible after your registration. For the Contextual offer Scheme Scholarship, we will let you know during the application cycle.  

 

Our YSJ Scholars scholarships will be paid in two instalments: one in mid-November and one in mid-February.

 

The next instalment is due on Wednesday 18th February 2026.  Students can find the payment dates for the YSJ Scholarships on their award letter which can be located in their inbox of the student finance account.
